Installing a Docking Drawer Blade Outlet in a 10" Drawer: Step-by-Step Guide

Selecting the Ideal Outlet

Any Blade outlet can be installed in drawers as slim as nine inches, but for the easiest installation and minimal drawer adjustments, we suggest choosing our 15 amp Blade Compact Vanity Outlet (or the 20 amp version). The Compact Vanity models feature slimmer cable management arms, allowing a seamless fit into drawers as narrow as eleven inches without modification. For drawers as tight as nine inches, our narrow drawer installation method makes fitting these outlets possible. Be sure to save this installation technique, as you’ll need it when specifying for your ten-inch wide drawer.

Docking Drawer Installation Steps

Step 1: Confirm there’s an accessible power source at the back wall of your cabinet.

If your cabinet lacks an internal outlet, you’ll need to install one before beginning. For furniture drawers, make sure there’s a power outlet within reach for your Docking Drawer connection.

Step 2: Unpack your Docking Drawer outlet.

Step 3: Take out the included installation manual and cutout templates for reference.

Step 4: Collect the required tools, including:

  • Oscillating multi-tool or jigsaw
  • Drill and drill bits
  • Screwdriver
  • Measuring tape
  • Pencil

Step 5: Secure the cutout templates to the rear of your drawer box.

Step 6: Drill four pilot holes at the corners of the marked template as indicated.

Step 7: Use the template to cut the opening in the back of the drawer box.

Step 8: Use the narrow drawer installation method.

If you don’t have unused cabinet space beside the drawer, you’ll need to use our narrow drawer installation approach. This involves cutting a channel in the cabinet’s side or divider wall to make room for the cable management arms to move as the drawer opens and closes. This step is necessary for both Compact Vanity and standard Blade outlets, but the required channel will be smaller with the Compact Vanity Outlet, thanks to its eleven-inch cable management arms compared to the standard thirteen-inch arms.

Step 9: Place the drawer box back into position.

Step 10: Install your Docking Drawer outlet.

Step 11: Mount the brackets to the back wall of the cabinet.

  • Take care to level and center the cable management arms during this step to ensure the drawer operates smoothly.

Step 12: Test the drawer’s movement.

  • If the drawer doesn’t open or close properly, double-check that the cable management arms are correctly leveled and centered.

Step 13: Install the outlet’s cover plate.

Step 14: Plug the Docking Drawer outlet into the cabinet’s power source. That’s it! Your devices can now be safely charged inside the drawer, keeping your countertops and surfaces clutter-free.
