Updating Your Docking Drawer Outlet: A Quick Walkthrough
It’s possible to upgrade your Docking Drawer outlets as your needs or technology evolve, ensuring your setup remains future-ready. Just follow these instructions to replace your in-drawer outlet:
1. Buy a Replacement Outlet: Make sure to select a Decora-style outlet that fits the amperage specifications of your Docking Drawer system. Replacement outlets are widely available at retailers like Home Depot, Amazon, or directly through our online store.
2. Remove the Docking Drawer Outlet: For better access during replacement, we suggest taking the outlet out of the drawer box:
- Unclip the cable management arms from the cabinet wall
- Take off the outlet cover plate
- Unscrew the mounting screws securing the Docking Drawer to the drawer box
- Remove the outlet and place it on a stable work surface
3. Detach the Receptacle: Unscrew the two screws that hold the outlet to the receptacle box.
4. Disconnect the Wiring: Carefully unplug the wires from the existing outlet and remove it.
5. Wire the New Outlet:
- Attach the black wire to the HOT terminal (brass screw) on the new outlet.
- Connect the white wire to the WHITE terminal (silver screw).
- Secure the green wire to the GREEN terminal (green screw).
6. Mount the New Outlet: Insert the new outlet into the receptacle box and fasten it with the two screws you previously removed.
7. Reinstall the Docking Drawer Outlet: Place the outlet back into the drawer box, referring to our installation manual as needed.
The video below shows how to replace a Docking Drawer receptacle without removing the outlet from the drawer box. Note: Since outlet sizes can slightly differ, we recommend following the above steps and removing your outlet first to work on a flat surface, making the process easier.
