Installing a Docking Drawer Blade outlet in a 12" wide drawer: a step-by-step guide

First: Choose the Right Blade Outlet

Every Blade outlet can be installed in drawers as slim as nine inches, but for a twelve-inch wide drawer, we suggest selecting our 15 amp Blade Compact Vanity Outlet (or the 20 amp option). These models are designed to fit a 12" drawer without any need for modifications to the drawer itself. If you already have a standard Blade Series outlet, which features arms that are thirteen inches wide, please refer to our installation tips for narrow drawer specifications.

Installing the Compact Vanity Outlet

Below are the steps tailored for installing our Compact Vanity Outlet in a 12" wide drawer:

Step 1: Confirm there’s a power source at the rear of your cabinet.

If there isn’t an outlet inside the cabinet, you must add one before installation. For furniture drawers, make sure an outlet is close enough for the Docking Drawer to reach.

Step 2: Open your Docking Drawer package.

Step 3: Take out the included instructions and cutout templates. Keep these handy for your installation.

Step 4: Collect the following tools:

  • Oscillating multi-tool or jigsaw
  • Drill and drill bits
  • Screwdriver
  • Measuring Tape
  • Pencil

Step 5: Position the cutout templates at the back of the drawer box.

Step 6: Drill holes at each corner of the template as directed.

Step 7: Using the template as a guide, cut out the marked section in the back of the drawer.

Step 8: Place the drawer box back into the cabinet.

Step 9: Install the Docking Drawer outlet into the cutout.

Step 10: Secure the mounting brackets to the back wall of the cabinet.

  • Take care to properly align and level the cable management arms at this stage, as this is essential for smooth drawer operation.

Step 11: Test that the drawer opens and closes freely.

  • If you notice any issues, double-check that the cable management arms are correctly leveled and centered.

Step 12: Attach the cover plate to the outlet.

Step 13: Plug the outlet into the power source at the back of the cabinet.

That’s it! You can now power your devices safely inside the drawer, keeping cords and gadgets off your countertops.
